Welcome to Screen Waffle!
My name is Billie and I’m from the UK. For as long as I can remember, I have always loved film. So much so in fact, I decided to complete a Master’s Degree in film in 2019. After graduating, I wanted to create an outlet where I could continue to discuss film and so I made this website.
What can you expect to find here?
Screen Waffle is a bit of an eclectic mix of content. In the navigation bar, you will find the categories: analyses, editorials, lists, and reviews.
At current, there are three series here on Screen Waffle. The first is Scream Waffle which looks at topics surrounding the horror genre, and the second is Watching Books, which considers book-to-film adaptations. There’s also Directors A-Z which looks at film directors biographically through A to Z.
My interest in film
As I mentioned earlier, I have had a life long passion for film as an art form. Because the subject is so broad and varied however, I thought it might be helpful for me to tell you a little bit about my particular interests within film.
I have a special interest in the relationship between image and sound. I completed my undergraduate degree in 2018 where I studied music, focusing particularly on film music. I not only enjoy analysing scores but I also enjoy composing my own music too.
In terms of genre, I particularly like fantasy and science-fiction. I also like investigating concepts such as feminism in cinema and the history of film.
I do hope you enjoy your visit and I’ll leave you with this quote from Ingmar Bergman:
“Film as dream, film as music. No art passes our conscience in the way film does, and goes directly to our feelings, deep down into the dark rooms of our souls.”
